
Selangor is one of the thirteen states in Malaysia, with Shah Alam being its Capitol. Selangor is located centrally along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is currently the wealthiest, most developed and urbanized state, with the vast growing population of 4.8 million people. However, Selangor still retains much of its natural allure, history, culture and traditions.
Selangor is Malaysia’s most popular state, with the nation’s biggest urban area, the Klang Valley. The Klang Valley compromises of Kuala Lumpur and its suburbs, and adjoining cities and towns in the state of Selangor. Ofcourse, the valley is named after the Klang River, the principal river that flows over Klang Valley.
Selangor’s geographical position in the centre of Peninsular Malaysia contributed to the state’s rapid development as Malaysia’s transportation and industrial hub. Selangor completely surrounds the Federal Territory of Wilayah Persekutuan and there are many close economic and social ties between them.
Selangor is Malaysia’s richest and most developed state and it is home to the largest port in the country, Port Klang. It’s greatly diversified economy ranges from agriculture to tourism. The state’s main economy comes from rubber, palm oil and tin mining. Port Klang is currently the largest port in the country is experiencing a vast and vigorous development. Tourism also plays a major part in the economy.

Although Selangor is known for its growing economy, it has a rich repository of art and culture as well and is the center of most major activities and events. The cityscapes of the state are a visual delight of modern architecture alongside well-preserved and maintained colonial and traditional buildings.
